About the Fellowship

The Writers’ Trust Board Fellowship will annually reward one writer with $50,000 for exceptional creative ability and outstanding promise in their publications to date. This fellowship intends to draw attention to a writer’s past work while also supporting the creation of their future books as they approach mid-career. The program will identify a writer with meaningful contributions to Canada’s literary landscape and community. In addition to the monetary reward, the recipient of the fellowship will also receive a two-week self-directed residency in the prestigious Leighton Artist Studios at Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity.

Writers’ Trust Board of Directors, a volunteer group of 15 individuals, funds this program designed to support writers as they approach mid-career. This program is intended to recognize and encourage writers who have made a literary mark, but who are entering a crucial point in their writing career, where writers often step back from their work out of a financial necessity to pursue careers outside of writing. The Writers’ Trust Board Fellowship will identify writers with meaningful contributions to Canada’s literary landscape and community and promise of more.

2026 WT Board Fellowship Jury

We are delighted to award Anne-Marie Turza with our Writers’ Trust Board Fellowship. As an alumna of our programming, Turza benefited at the very beginning of her career from her nomination for the RBC Bronwen Wallace Award, which led her to publish her debut collection. We are proud to support her again as she approaches mid-career and excited to read her future contributions to the Canadian literary canon.
