About the Mentorship
The Writers’ Trust Mentorship program provides support, guidance, and one-on-one instruction to an under 35 emerging writer from an established writer. When writers feel understood and have a close working relationship with their mentors, they make transformative strides in their writing and fulfill their potential.
Three mentors are selected by the Writers’ Trust, each established and working in one of the fields of fiction, creative nonfiction, and poetry. Each mentor selects one mentee from a pool of applicants to work with over a 5-month period. Beyond instruction, mentees will also receive $2,500 to help them finance time to write during their mentorship.
The primary focus of the mentorship will be on instruction in the craft of writing, and as such mentees should have a substantial work-in-progress at the time of application and a commitment to develop that work-in-progress in concert with their mentor. Mentors may additionally provide mentees with direction on elements of the business of writing. This is not an introductory creative writing course. It is an intensive, focused period of collaboration.
This is a pilot project that will run in 2019-20.
