“Terese Mason Pierre’s writing is startlingly versatile, moving back and forth and between the literary and the speculative, and artfully engaging social issues and deep character formation at once. She is able torange, with great agility, between the lyric and the fictive. Her prose is dialogue-driven and thoughtful, putting its feet down in settings that are often local and tangible. Premise never overpowers character in her fiction, and we see who her figures are, whether that is through the pressures of the social or by circumstances made strange and defamiliarized through the flavourings of fantasy. Hers is work that is exciting and wide-ranging, and I am thrilled to see where she takes us next.”
