RBC Bronwen Wallace Award for Emerging Writers

for Where Do Mothers Go

Jury Citation

“With a dazzling voice and finely wrought imagery, Huyền Trân deftly renovates the complicated retelling of an enduring family history. Constructed from an archive of deep pathos, Trân’s memoir excavates a mother’s survival of the Vietnam War and hardships endured through geographical displacement, while simultaneously offering us a resonating portrait of a daughter’s love. Stylistically and thematically, this is an astonishing work innovative in form and memory by a writer to watch.”—2025 RBC Bronwen Wallace Award creative nonfiction jury (Omar Mouallem, Alessandra Naccarato, and Lindsay Wong)
