Established by Robin Pacific through an endowment at the Toronto Community Foundation, this grant is awarded to an emerging Canadian gay writer who demonstrates great promise through a body of work of exceptional quality.
2008 Recipient
Debra Anderson is an award-winning writer, playwright, and filmmaker. She is the author of the novel Code White, published by McGilligan Books in 2005. She is also the recipient of the George Ryga Award for Playwriting and a graduate of the York University Creative Writing Program. A regular on the Toronto reading scene for most of the last decade, Anderson's writing has appeared in numerous literary journals and anthologies, including the Lambda Award-nominated Brazen Femme: Queering Femininity. Anderson lives in Toronto.
Honour of Distinction
Greg Kearney is an author and playwright. His collection of short stories, Mommy Daddy Baby, was published by McGilligan Books in 2004. A former humour columnist for Xtra!, Kearney has also written several plays that have been produced at Buddies in Bad Times Theatre and Theatre Passe Muraille. He lives in Toronto.
Dayne Ogilvie was a highly respected freelance book editor, writer, and manager. A passionate lover of the arts, he died in October 2006.
