Berton House Gala
Tuesday, June 05, 2012
Fort York, Toronto, Ontario
This festive event brings together friends and admirers of Pierre Berton to raise funds in support of Canadian writers-in-residence at Pierre Berton’s boyhood home in Dawson City, Yukon.
In celebration of the bicentennial of the War of 1812, the 2012 event was held at historic Fort York in Toronto, complete with Red Coat entertainment and wartime-era music. Fabulous celebrity chef Jason Rosso served a delicious dinner inspired by our theme, a celebration of Canada’s triumph over Manifest Destiny. Past writers-in-residence spoke of their experience while living at Berton House, and the current habitant, Tim Falconer, offered a peek into his everyday life in the Yukon.
Silent and live auctions featured the most exciting prizes this side of the treeline, including an authentic antique drum, lovely original artwork, an iPad, and a set of Pierre Berton’s books, among others.
We offer our gratitude to the numerous sponsors, table and ticket buyers, and auction-item winners and donors who, through their generosity, have supported this program.
We also thank the Berton House Writers' Retreat Gala committee for their dedication in putting together this fantastic event.
