2012 Distinguished Contribution Award Winner

Metcalf Foundation

Citation

“A model of generosity, care, and a willingness to make a difference, for 50 years the Metcalf Foundation has stood firmly behind Canadian authors, helping to recognize the brightest members of our country’s children’s literature community. The Vicky Metcalf Award is just one of the hundreds of projects that the Foundation support. All told, the foundation invests more than $5 million each year in direct charitable activity, focused primarily on the areas of community, environment, and performing arts.”

About

Established by George Cedric Metcalf in 1960, the Metcalf Foundation’s original focus was on social, educational, and health issues in Ontario. In 1998 when George Cedric Metcalf left his estate to the Foundation, the focus changed primarily to three areas: the performing arts, the environment, and poverty reduction throughout Canada. The Metcalf Foundation’s goal is to enhance the effectiveness of people and organizations who work together to help Canadians imagine and build a just, healthy, and creative society. The Foundation aims to foster sustainable communities by creating conditions for innovation, risk-taking, and collaboration. They nurture and equip communities with opportunities for learning, supporting people and organizations with a range of perspectives to connect the dots across disciplines and sectors.
